Wheaton Blanks Field Hockey 4-0

NORTON, Mass. -  The Lasell College field hockey team dropped a 4-0 decision to Wheaton College on Tuesday night at Nordin Field. The Lyons improve to 5-0 overall for the first time since the start of the 1991 season, while the Lasers slip to 1-3 overall.

Lyons' Sophomore goalkeeper Riley Thompson picked up her second shutout of the season, while improving her overall record to 5-0. First-year keeper Emily Curran also saw time in net, making one save.

Wheaton outshot its opponent 16-7, with 10 of those shots coming from sophomore Katie Peters. The Lyons also held a 12-11 advantage in penalty corners. Freshman Cailin Flannery (Medford, N.J.) led the Lasers in shots with four.

Peters netted the Lyons first goal of the contest in the 15th minute after cleaning up a rebound in the box. Kelsey Buckley scored the first of her two goals just four minutes later with a feed from Kelsey Harris.d

Buckley and Peters connected for the Lyons next goal, with Peters playing the ball in for Buckley who found the back of the net in the 52nd minute. Peters capped off the scoring two minutes later with her second goal of the night.

Lasell netminder Denise Landry (1-3) saved six of 10 shots faced on net., while Thompson had one stop on the day. 

Both teams return to conference action on Saturday, September 19 at 12:00 p.m. The Lasers return to their home turf for a contest against the reigning conference champs Simmons College, while the Lyons travel to Wellesley College.
