Field Hockey Stymied by Framingham State Comeback

Framingham, Mass. (10/29/14) – The Lasell College field hockey team fell victim to three second half goals including a pair from junior Cady Kelly (Canton, Mass.) to erase a 2-0 deficit and suffer a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Framingham State University. Framingham State improves to 7-10 on the season, while the Lasers slip to 6-11.

Junior Ashley Gleason (Suffield, Mass.) had a hand in both first half goals by the Lasers as they took a 2-0 lead at the break.  Gleason assisted on the Lasers first goal as she set up teammate Francesca Ceppetelli (Enfield, Conn.) with a long pass in the circle.  Ceppetelli made a move past a defender and slipped a shot inside the far post with 20 minutes remaining in the frame.  Gleason tallied the Lasers second goal with just over five minutes remaining in the opening half when she converted off a feed from senior Kristine Jackson (Medway, Mass.).

The Rams countered with a pair of quick strikes from Kelly to tie the game less than 10 minutes into the second.  Kelly struck first with 28:35 remaining in the half off an assist from senior Rhea Urbaniak (Chelmsford, Mass.), who had carried the ball in the circle and laid a pass off to Kelly on the wing. Sophomore Lynne Sirchia (Goshen, Conn.) set up Kelly's second marker at 27:22.

Framingham took their first and the final lead of the game with just under 16 minutes remaining in regulation.  Kelly fired a shot on the cage that was saved by the Lasers goalkeeper, but senior Shannon O'Malley (Worcester, Mass.) was there to redirect the rebound into the net for the 3-2 advantage.
The Rams held a slim 12-11 edge in shots and an 8-4 advantage in penalty corners.  Junior Rosemary Talbot (Whitinsville, Mass.) picked up the victory in net making four saves, while Taylor Sheehan and Denise Landry combined to make five saves for the Lasers.
The Rams close the season on Saturday with a Little East Conference match-up with at Salem State University at 12 p.m., while the Lasers are back in action on Saturday at Anna Maria College in an opening round game of the GNAC Tournament at 11 a.m.
