Roger Williams Tops Lasell 3-0 in field Hockey Action

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Field Hockey team ended a three-game skid Wednesday afternoon to Lasell College with a 3-0 win over the Lasers.

The Hawks kept the pressure on the Lasers early on in the contest, notching eight shots and two penalty corners within the first 12 minutes of play. The turning point came in the third minute of the game.

Meghan Curran (West Milford, N.J.) set up on the right side of the goal and notched a shot that was saved by Laser keeper Denise Landry (West Milford, Conn.). Stephanie Yaeger (Gansevoort, N.Y.) followed on the loose ball and her attempt denied by Landry as well. The third time was the charm for Roger Williams, with Curran staying with it and converting her shot for her eighth goal of the year.

Roger Williams' Abby Treweek (Lakeville, Mass.) later helped preserve the one-goal lead, making a heads-up clear with the ball on the crease off of a penalty.

The Lasers also missed a great opportunity to tie the game with seven minutes left in the first half. Lasell's Taylor Hulitzky (Medway, Mass.) brought the ball down the right side and made a cross pass to Francesca Ceppetelli (Enfield, Conn.) who swung and missed on the one-timer try.

The Hawks were able to tack on one more score before the end of the period, with Juliana Miccile (Upton, Mass.) stealing a Laser pass and making her way into the arc and hitting a hard shot into the left corner to put the Hawks up by two.

Shortly into the second half, the Hawks scored another goal via the same manner as the first. In the 44th minute, Curran took advantage of a loose ball from a save off a Yaeger shot and scored with a shot to the left side for her second score of the contest.

Meghan Augur (North Branford, Conn.) needed to make only one save on the day for the shutout win. Landry had ten stops for the Lasers before being relieved by Brianna Kulvete (Templeton, Mass.), who had one save in 10:06 of action.

On Saturday, Roger Williams will travel to Endicott for a Commonwealth Coast Conference matchup against Endicott, while Lasell will head to Simmons.
