MIT Tops Lasell, 2-0 in Field Hockey

NEWTON, Mass. (9/16/14) – The Lasell College field hockey team fell to visiting MIT, 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon at Grellier Field. The Lasers slipped to 2-4 on the season, while MIT remained undefeated at 5-0.

Denise Landry (New Milford, Conn.) made 21 saves for Lasell in the cage, a new Lasell College record helping keep Lasell in the game on the scoreboard. Taylor Hulitzky (Medway, Mass.) had a pair of shots on goal, providing the most dangerous chances for the Lasers attack.

Morgan O'Brien (Crofton, Md.) and Molly McNamara (Auburn, Mass.) each scored for the Engineers while Elizabeth Dethy (Morristown, N.J.) assisted on one of the visitors goals. Paige Kennedy (Eastchester, N.Y.) made a pair savers in relief in goal for MIT, replacing Evie Kyritsis (Mountain Lakes, N.J.) at the half. MIT held large advantages in shots on goal, 24-2 and penalty corners, 18-3 as they controlled the game but were unable to pull away late.

O'Brien gave MIT a 1-0 lead in the 10th minute of play when a crisp feed from Dethy found her on the far post and she calmly finished past a recovering Landry. MIT was unable to capitalize on a number of chances, thanks to Landry's outstanding play in goal for Lasell, eventually MIT was able to add a second goal when Molly McNamara collected a rebound after a pair of saves from Landry and knocked it past the diving keeper for the final margin.

Lasell nearly pulled a goal back in the final four minutes, but Hulitzky was stopped in a one-on-one with MIT netminder Paige Kennedy to allow MIT to maintain their lead and capture the victory.

Lasell is back in action on Saturday September 20th when they open their GNAC schedule with a 12:00 p.m. matchup against Johnson and Wales. MIT will host Springfield College on Saturday September 20th at 1:00 p.m. as they hope to continue to keep their unbeaten streak alive.
