Field Hockey Falls to Thomas in Regular Season Finale

WATERVILLE, Maine (10/27/13) - The Lasell College field hockey team suffered a 3-2 loss in their final regular season contest at Thomas College on Sunday afternoon. The Lasers dropped to 9-8 overall and 4-5 in North Atlantic Conference play while the Terriers improved to 6-7 on the season and 4-5 in league contests.

Samantha Smithers (Yarmouth, Mass.) and Nikita Soares (Westport, Conn.) each scored for Lasell and Ashley Gleason tallied two assists on the day. Lauren Hachey, Michelle Greene, and Brittany Premo scored the Terriers goals.

Thomas went in front 1-0 in the 14th minute of play when Lauren Hachey's drive beat Lasell goalie Taylor Sheehan (Brewster, Mass.) coming off a penalty corner. The Terriers took their 1-0 lead into the half depsite being out-shot 8-5 in the opening half.

Lasell evened the score at 1-1 just 2:14 into the second half when Smithers finished a pass from Gleason on the right side. Michelle Greene answered a minute later for Thomas College to put the hosts back in the lead, 2-1. Brittany Premo's unassisted goal in the 60th minute of the contest made it 3-1 in favor of Thomas. Lasell responded with a Soares goal on a feed from Gleason in the 61st minute, but were unable to find a tying goal, falling 3-2.

Taylor Sheehan made nine saves in the game for Lasell while Jasmine Bishop and Sofia Sourgiadakis split time in the cage for Thomas, making seven and three saves respectively.

Lasell will be off until Saturday November 2nd when they will travel to St. Joseph's College of Maine for a NAC tournament quarterfinal at 2:00 p.m.
