Field Hockey Falls at UMaine-Farmington

FARMINGTON, Maine – The Lasell College field hockey team fell 5-0 at the University of Maine at Farmington Saturday afternoon at Prescott Field. The Beavers improved to 7-6 overall, 6-2 in the NAC, while Lasell falls to 10-8, 4-4 in conference play.

Senior Kaitlyn Bullen got UMaine-Farmington on the board barely a minute into the game with her seventh goal of the season, teaming up with fellow senior Kashley Weymouth on a 'give-and-go' inside the circle and finishing with a blast past Lasell goalie Taylor Sheehan.

Chelsea Morley doubled UMF's lead to 2-0 with 25:43 showing on the first half clock, finishing a penalty corner shot from the top of the circle off an insertion by Mara Balboni.

Balboni scored the Beavers' next to goals to give UMaine-Farmington a 4-0 lead at the intermission.

Balboni's first goal came with 16:21 remaining in the opening half, when she was the recipient of an errant clearing attempt by a Lasell defender following a busted penalty corner play. Instead of the ball getting cleared toward the sideline it went straight to the stick of Balboni, who was standing by the left post and put the ball past Sheehan.

Balboni picked up her second goal of the game and the season with 10:12 left in the half, scoring from nearly the same spot in the goalmouth as her previous strike. Weymouth was credited with an assist on the goal.

Senior Kate Storey picked up UMF's lone second half goal with 28:30 left in the game, when she tipped in Morley's shot at the top of the circle on a penalty corner.

UMaine-Farmington outshot Lasell, 15-6, and enjoyed a healthy 19-3 margin on penalty corner attempts. Sheehan finished the day with four saves in the Lasers' cage, while Farmington goalie Curran Brierley charted four saves as well.
