Field Hockey Scores 2-0 Win against Framingham State

NEWTON, Mass. (10/17/13) - The Lasell College field hockey team claimed a 2-0 non-conference victory over visiting Framingham State o Thursday afternoon. The Lasers improved to 8-7 on the season with the victory while the Rams dropped to 8-6 overall with the loss.

Ainslee Thompson (Allendale, N.J.) and Danielle Hottin (N. Branford, Conn.) each scored for the Lasers while Courtney Braman (Gardner, Mass.) and Kristine Jackson (Medway, Mass.) each notched assists on the afternoon. 

Framingham opened the contest with the early momentum, winning a pair of penalty corners in the opening ten minutes of action but were unable to get on the board. Danielle Hottin of Lasell saw a scoring chance denied on a defensive save by Framingham's Samantha Pajer (Leicester, Mass.) in the 14th minute of action. Lasell was awarded consecutive penalty corners in the 16th minute but failed to convert and Framingham again put Lasell under pressure. The Rams used a pair of penalty corners to force Lasell keeper Taylor Sheehan (Brewster, Mass.) into making two saves. 

Lasell grabbed a 1-0 lead when senior Ainslee Thompson converted a feed from Courtney Braman on a penalty corner, helping the hosts go on top with less than two minutes left until halftime.

Lasell pushed their advantage to 2-0 in the 51st minute, again taking advantage of a penalty corner. Danielle Hottin drove the ball into the cage on a pass from Kristine Jackson providing more of a cushion for the Lasers. The Rams continued to push as Lasell fought off five penalty corners in the final 20 minutes of play to collect the 2-0 victory.

Sheehan made five saves to record the shutout win for Lasell while Sarah Palace (Auburn, Mass.) was credited with five saves in the loss.

Lasell will host Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday October 19th at Grellier Field. The Lasers will honor their five seniors prior to the 1:00 p.m. start time. Framingham St. will travel to the University of Southern Maine on Saturday October 19th for a 3:00 p.m. match.
