Lasell Comeback Falls Short, Field Hockey Drops 3-1 Result to Anna Maria

NEWTON, Mass. (9/19/13) – The Lasell College field hockey team suffered a 3-1 defeat to Anna Maria College. The AMCats scored three first half goals and held on for the victory improving to 5-3 with the Lasers slipping to 3-4 on the season.

Danielle Hottin (North Branford, Conn.) scored the Lasers second half goal on an assist from Kristine Jackson. Kylie Dalbec (Portland, Maine) scored a pair of goals for Anna Maria and notched an assist, while Nichole Lowe (Saugus, Mass.) scored for the visitors as well.

Lasell failed to convert on a pair of penalty corners in the game's opening five minutes, and Anna Maria got on the board when they sprung a counter-attack to score in the sixth minute. After clearing a Lasell corner, Dalbec pushed the ball up the field and found an open Lowe who fired a shot into the net to take a 1-0 lead.

Anna Maria capitalized on the momentum of their early goal, controlling the flow of play and pushing their lead to 3-0 when Dalbec converted on a pair of opportunities in the 22nd and 28th minutes. The AMCats held a 3-0 lead at the break, out-shooting Lasell 13-2 in the game's opening half.

Lasell slowly regained some control over the game, scoring with just over 13 minutes remaining when Hottin scored off a feed from Jackson on a penalty corner. Lasell outshot the visitors 9-4 over the game's final 35 minutes, but the Lasers were unable to tie the contest.

Taylor Sheehan (Brewster, Mass.) made nine saves in the contest for Lasell, while Anna Maria's Mary Kate Breen (Londonderry, N.H.) made three saves while collecting the win in goal.

Lasell will host Castleton State on Saturday September 21st at 1:00 p.m. in their North Atlantic Conference opener, while Anna Maria will host Wells College on Saturday the 21st at 3:00 p.m.
