Field Hockey Improves to 1-1 with Defeat of Wheelock

BOSTON, MASS. (9/5/13) - The Lasell College field hockey team earned a non-conference road victory Thursday night with a 10-0 defeat over Wheelock College. Lasell scored four goals in the opening half, and added six more in the second stanza while improving to 1-1 on the season, with Wheelock falling to 0-2 for the year.

Nikita Soares and Katelyn Dombrowski each scored a pair of goals and recorded one assist, while Ashley Gleason scored twice and Ainslee Thompson added two assists on the night. Danielle Hottin, Cristina Wilson, Courtney Braman and Samantha Smithers each netted goals for the Lasers as well. 

Lasell opened the scoring in the 13th minute when Soares found Gleason to put Lasell in front 1-0. Soares recorded her first goal of the game four minutes later to put Lasell in front 2-0. A minute later, Dombrowski finished a shot past the Wildcats keeper to put Lasell ahead 3-0 with 17:31 played in the opening half. Danielle Hottin scored an unassisted goal with just over ten minutes remaining in the opening half to give Lasell a four goal cushion.

Lasell continue to stretch their lead early in the second half, as Ainslee Thompson found Gleason for her second goal of the night, just over three minutes into the half, and then Cristina Wilson finished a feed from Dombrowski a minute later to make it 6-0. 

Lasell tacked on four more goals, going in front 10-0 with 17:13 remaining in the game on Samantha Smithers first goal of the season and closing out the victory. Taylor Sheehan earned the win in net for Lasell, recording one save on the night, while Michelle Green made ten saves while taking the loss for Wheelock.

Lasell will be back in action on Saturday September 7th when they host Eastern Connecticut State at 12:00 p.m. at Grellier Field.
