Simmons Sneaks Past Lasell in Women’s Field Hockey

Newton, Mass. (10/20/12) – The Lasell College women's field hockey team dropped their final home game of the 2012 season to Simmons College by a score of 2-1 on Saturday at Grellier Field. The loss drops the Lasers to 4-12 on the season and 1-7 in the North Atlantic Conference, while Simmons improves to 5-12 overall and 4-5 in the NAC.

Cristina Wilson (Wilmington, Mass.) scored the only goal of the day for Lasell, with Kate Fabri (Fairfield, Conn.) tallying an assist for the Lasers, who held a 20-7 edge in shots and a 12-2 edge in shots on goal. Cassie Aviles (Bellingham, Mass.) took the loss in goal for Lasell.

Simmons got a pair of goals from Kelly Williamson (Natick, Mass.), and an assist from Monica Doucette (Rockport, Maine) to earn the 2-1 victory. Carolyn Baremore (East Lyme, Conn.) made 11 saves on the day for the Sharks helping her team earn the NAC victory.

Williamson tallied the first goal of the match in the 17th minute, scoring on a feed from Doucette to put the visitors ahead 1-0. Wilson netted her goal on the Fabri feed in the 19th minute of action to tie the game, but the margin was short lived as Williamson scored 11 seconds later to put Simmons back in front 2-1. Lasell kept the pressure on Simmons, firing 10 shots in the second half, and holding a 13-3 advantage on penalty corners on the day, but were unable to find an equalizer in the final 35 minutes.

Simmons will host WPI in their final regular season contest on Tuesday October 23rd at 6:30 pm. Lasell has a pair of road games remaining, traveling to Colby-Sawyer College on Tuesday October 23rd, before finishing their regular season schedule at Framingham State on Wednesday October 24th.
