Monks Sweep Lasers, 4-0

NEWTON, MA—St. Joseph's College of Maine swept the Lasell College field hockey team, 4-0, on Saturday in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play at Grellier Field.  The Lasers celebrated their senior day, as well as Family, Friends, and Alumni Weekend, during the event in front of a crowd of 300. 

 

The Lasers fall to 3-12 (1-7 NAC) this season after the loss while the Monks improve to first in the conference with a 9-3 overall and a 7-0 unbeaten NAC slate.

 

Four Monks scored goals in the duel, while Ainslee Thompson (Allendale, NJ) was Lasell's only offensive threat in the game.  Sarah Bartell (Exeter, NH), Amanda Sebastiao (Uxbridge, MA), Renee Leach (Springvale, ME), and Olivia Tourangeau (Old Orchard Beach, ME) all tallied one goal in the match.  Meaghan Johnson (Portland, ME) walked away with the shutout in net without making a save.

 

Lasell's goalie Christine Thornton (Canton, MA) was hammered with 19 shots, 15 of which were on-target.  Thornton turned aside nine of those shots while Emily Cooper (Riverhead, NY) produced one defensive save for the team.

 

Prior to the start of the game, four Lasers were recognized on Senior Day for their contributions to the field hockey program.  Thornton, Tiffany Potter (Leicester, MA), Ainsley Wolfe (Derry, NH), and Hannah Cebry (Burlington, CT) were the four student-athletes honored.

 

The Lasers have a week off before their next contest on Saturday, October 22nd to complete NAC competition for the season.  They face Simmons College at the Sharks home field at 1:00 p.m.
