Field Hockey Falls to Castleton

NEWTON, MA-  The Lasell College field hockey team lost their Saturday North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest to Castleton State, 5-2, dropping the Lasers to 2-8 on the season and 1-4 in conference play.  Castleton remains undefeated in the conference, at 3-0, and levels at 5-5 overall. 

 

For the Spartans, Rachel Preusser (Craryville, N.Y.) scored two goals and handed out one assist to lead Castleton with five points.  Blake Wardwell (Bridgewater, VT), Kealy Chipman (Bellows Falls, VT), and Shawna Pinsonault (Brownsville, VT) each added one goal to complete the visitors scoring.

 

Sam Smithers (Yarmouth, MA) scored the pair of Lasell goals and Katelyn Fabri (Fairfield, CT) collected one assist on Smithers first goal.  Smithers' second goal was scored on a penalty stroke in the second half.

 

Lasell's goalkeeper split time in net as senior starter Christine Thornton (Canton, MA) fended off 10 shots in the first period and freshman goalie Grace Amato (Sharon, VT) swatted away seven Spartan attempts in the second half.  

 

Sophomore midfielder Emily Cooper (Riverhead, NY) came up big for Lasell in the back field as well, with four defensive save in the contest.  

 

Castleton's goalkeeper Bridget Dusha (Greenwich, NY) made one save in her fourth straight victory. 

 

Lasell is hosting Colby-Sawyer College in their next NAC contest on Tuesday, October 4th, at 4:00 p.m. on Grellier Field.
