Falcons Fly Away with Non-Conference Field Hockey Victory

Fitchburg, MA—The Fitchburg State field hockey team took a 5-1 non-conference victory over Lasell College on Thursday evening.  Fitchburg enhanced their record to 7-3 overall while the Lasers continue on a three-game slide, for a 4-8 season slate.

Fitchburg seniors Mari Roma (Foxborough, MA) and Megan Jacobs (Stoughton, MA) combined for eight points, each scoring two goals in the contest.   Roma scored right off the bat in the fourth minute to put the Falcons ahead.  She then followed that up with the eventual game-winning goal, which was scored at 27:03, when Roma found the back of the Lasers' net, unassisted.

One minute later, Jacobs made her first mark when she was directed by Rebecca Bush (Littleton, MA) with a leading pass into scoring position to give the Falcons a 3-0 edge before the halftime break.

Upon returning to action, Lasell's Tia Pratt (Oxford Hills, ME) ended the Lasers' scoring drought, finishing off a pass from freshman Hillary Joseph (Cranford, NJ).  Pratt's seventh season goal came about in the 46th minute.

The Falcons resisted any continuing Laser comeback however, with Jacobs and Kaylee Bergeron (Acushnet, MA) registering two back-to-back marks in the 59th and 66th minutes of the game.

The Falcons controlled the offensive end, limiting the Lasers to only seven shots in the contest, while posting 28 of their own. Sophomore Abbie Brown (Westford, MA) earned the victory for Fitchburg State with five saves between the pipes, while junior goaltender Christine Thornton (Canton, MA) stopped 14 shots for the Lasers.

Lasell will visit Castleton State on Saturday at 6 p.m. for a North Atlantic Conference matchup.
