LASERS DOWN SHARKS IN CONFERENCE PLAY

Lasell College beat Simmons College today in NAC field hockey action at Grellier Field.   With this win, the Lasers even their conference record to 2-2 and boosted their overall record to 6-7.

The Lasers scored first at 11:56 when Stephanie Jansen (Glen, NH) sent a through ball to Caitlyn Walker (Middlebury, CT) to generate a 1-0 advantage.

Simmons fought back though with three consecutive penalty corner opportunities, all of which were stifled by the Lasers diligent defense.  Sara Jannuzzi (Glen, NH) stopped the Shark's first attempt by clearing the ball before Simmons could even get a shot off.  The second attempt was dismissed by Lasell's goalkeeper Christine Thornton (Canton, MA) with a huge kick save, and the third corner was blocked by Kristin Moran (Bedford, NH).

Tia Pratt (South Paris, ME) was incredibly aggressive throughout the contest for Lasell.  In the 28th minute, Pratt dribbled from outside the arc, made a move and sent a high shot perfectly through the Sharks defense to score the Lasers second goal.

Simmons continued to turn out opportunities during the following half, with 6 penalty corners, and three total shots, but both teams remained scoreless in the period, and the Lasers came out on top with a 2-0 win.

Thornton had three total saves in the game, while Jannuzzi came away with her first defensive save of the season.

Lasell's next matchup will be played on Saturday, October 18th on Grellier Field.  The Lasers will challenge Daniel Webster College at 11:30 a.m. The three senior field hockey athletes, Cara Hulse (Danbury, CT), Amanda Miller (Fall River, MA), and Jansen will be recognized prior to the start of the game.
