BSB: Lasers Fall to Bison in Doubleheader

Dudley, MA – The Lasell University baseball team dropped a non-conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon to the Nichols College Bison, 3-0 and 8-5. The losses set the Lasers back to 21-18 on the year while the Bison improve to 26-9.

Game 1

The Bison got on the board first in the second inning as Jim Marasco hit a sacrifice fly to score the games first run. An inning later, Brennan Hyde blasted a two-run home run over the right-center field fence to give the Bison a 3-0 lead.

Hyde's home run would be the difference in game one as the Lasers were not able to manufacture anything offensively against Nichols starter, Aidan Whitten. Whitten tossed all seven innings, allowing just three hits and no runs while striking out six.

Matt Fletcher (4-3) received the loss for the Lasers as he tossed two and one-third innings, allowing three runs on three hits while walking three and striking out three.

Offensively, Tim Callahan, Pierce Clare, and Dave Egan all singled for the Lasers.

Game 2

Lasell got on the board first in game two as Connor Freitas singled to right field with runners on first and third. Immediately after him, Jared Whitby singled in another Laser run giving them a 2-0 lead.

Nichols was able to get one back in the bottom half of the first as Will Kleinhenz singled with a runner on second.

Lasell would tack on two more runs in the second inning when Callahan drove in Peter German on a sacrifice fly to left field and a failed pickoff attempt would bring in another Laser run, making it a 4-1 game.

The Bison wouldn't go away though as a wild pitch would score them another run. Ben Jerome would then single to center field with a runner on third, bringing them within one.

The Lasers would make it a two-run ball game in the third as German singled to bring in Whitby.

The Nichols offense would take over from there as a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the third brought in another run. In the fourth, a double and single would score three more runs and give the Bison a 7-5 lead. A home run off the bat of Liam Flynn would cap off the scoring and make it 8-5 Bison.

Pierce Clare got the start for the Lasers, tossing two innings, allowing three runs on four hits while walking one. Brad Edwards (0-1) would be charged with the loss.

Offensively, German doubled, singled and drove in a run, CJ Mills singled twice, and Whitby also singled twice. Callahan, Scott Lyon, Freitas, and Ross Audet all singled as well.
