BSB: Lasers Swept by Wildcats in Final GNAC Doubleheader

Providence, RI – The Lasell University baseball team dropped both games of their final regular season GNAC doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. Lasell lost to the Johnson and Wales Wildcats by scores of 10-0 and 11-1. The losses set Lasell back to 21-16 overall and 10-6 in conference play. The wins for JWU make them 21-10 on the season and 12-3 in conference.

Game 1

Game one of this two game set got off to a slow start for both offenses as they were both held scoreless for the first two innings. JWU got the scoring started in the bottom of the third when EJ Leone doubled to right center bringing in Trevor Juan from second for the game's first run. The next batter, Owen Davis, reached on an error that would score Leone from second. Xavier Botelho would come up next and double in the left center gap to score Davis and make it a 3-0 lead.

The Wildcats loaded the bases in the fifth inning and a wild pitch would extend their lead by one. The next inning, a leadoff walk would give them a baserunner and Riley Hasson then blasted a two-run home run to left field making it a 6-0 game.

The Wildcats added another run in the seventh as Jack Magane doubled with runners on second and third, bringing in both runners. A walk would give JWU two baserunners with two outs and Hasson up. Hasson would then triple to right field, scoring both runners and enforcing the mercy rule as JWU led 10-0.

Zach Simone (3-2) got the start for the Lasers, throwing three innings allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits while striking out three.

Offensively, Bryan Baumann doubled and singled and Tim Callahan and Brad Edwards each singled.

Game 2

Lasell got on the board first in game two as CJ Mills reached on an error and would eventually steal third setting up Edwards for a sacrifice fly. Other than that, both sides were held scoreless through three innings.

In the fourth, a leadoff double from Leone set up Botelho to knock him in with a single up the middle. The next batter, Jack Obert, would launch a two-run home run to give the Wildcats a 3-1 lead.

Back-to-back singles to start the fifth inning gave JWU runners on first and third for Hasson as he singled down the left field line, plating a run. The Wildcats would score six more runs in the sixth inning as a sacrifice fly would score Botelho, a bases loaded hit by pitch would score another run and a Leone grand slam made it 10-1 Wildcats.

JWU would end the game in the seventh as a single from Gus Lappin with runners on first and second ended things and gave the Wildcats an 11-1 win.

Ty Lohsen (0-1) got the start for Lasell, throwing five innings, allowing five runs on wight hits while striking out five.

Offensively, Edwards drove in the lone run and Mills, Ross Audet and Pierce Clare each singled.
