BSB: Baseball Drops Close GNAC Battle with Monks

Standish, ME – The Lasell University baseball team dropped a GNAC conference battle with the St. Joseph's Monks on Tuesday evening, 3-1. The loss sets the Lasers back to 21-13 overall and 10-4 in conference this season. The win propels the Monks to 8-22 overall and 5-7 in GNAC play.

The Monks got out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning as they were able to load up the bases with one out. Dylan brander would then single up the middle to bring two runners home for the early advantage.

Later on, in the bottom half of the fourth, a single and a stolen base would put the Monks' Luke Stephens on second with just one out. A groundball to second base would move him to third and the next batter, Brady Cabral singled to centerfield giving St. Joe's a 3-0 lead.

The Lasers got their one and only run in the seventh as Ross Audet doubled to lead off the inning. Two batters later, Jared Whitby doubled to left center, driving in Audet to get the Lasers on the board. Lasell would get two runners on in the eighth but couldn't manage anything more offensively, leading to a 3-1 Monks win.

Jeremy Blackwood (2-1) got the loss for Lasell. Starting and throwing seven innings, Blackwood only allowed three runs on five hits while walking three and striking out six.

Offensively for Lasell, Whitby doubled twice and drove in the lone run. Audet and Scott Lyon each doubled and CJ Mills, Tim Callahan, Brad Edwards, and Bryan Baumann all singled.

Up Next: The Lasers are on the road again Thursday, traveling to Bridgewater, Massachusetts for non-conference action against the Bridgewater State Bears. First pitch will be at 3:30 PM.
