BSB: Lasers Open Up GNAC Play With 6-1 Loss to Mariners

New London, CT – The Lasell University baseball team dropped their GNAC opener on Tuesday evening, losing to the Mitchell College Mariners 6-1. The loss dropped Lasell to 10-7 overall and 0-1 in conference play, while Mitchell improved to 11-6 overall and 3-0 in conference.

The Mariners jumped out to an early lead to start the game, after two singles got runners on first and third, Chas Terni reached on an error allowing Angel Galindez to score and give the Mariners an early 1-0 lead. Mitchell would tack on two more in the third inning as Terni singled in another run and the next batter, Chris Lalli doubled over the left fielder's head to plate two more as the Mariners led 4-0 after three innings.

Mitchell would get their last two runs in the top of the fourth on a double play ball with runners on first and third that scored a run and another in the top of the seventh as Owen Robbins doubled down the left field line to plate Galindez. After seven the Mariners led 6-0.

The Lasers would score their lone run in the bottom of the eighth on a fielders choice RBI off the bat of Scott Lyon that plated Tim Callahan. Lasell couldn't scratch across anymore as they would go on to lose 6-1.

Junior Matt Fletcher was on the mound for the Lasers, tossing four innings allowing seven hits and five runs while walking one and striking out three. Fellow junior Adam Marsh came in relief of Fletcher, throwing the final five innings allowing just one run on four hits while walking one and sitting down four.

Offensively for the Lasers graduate student Brad Edwards led the way with two singles, Bryan Baumann and CJ Mills each added a single and Lyon drove in the lone run.

 

Up Next – The Lasers are back in action tomorrow as they face off against the Brandeis Judges at Brandeis. First pitch is slated for 3:30 pm.
