BSB: Baumann Collects 100th Career Hit as Lasers Roll Curry

Milton, MA – The Lasell University baseball team improved to 9-6 on the season with a 13-5 win over the Curry Colonels on Wednesday afternoon. The loss sets Curry back to 3-9 on the year.

The offense got going quickly for both sides in this one. Lasell got on the board first in the first inning as junior Tim Callahan scored on a single from Brad Edwards. They were able to tack on two more in the second inning as Bryan Baumann singled through the left side for his 100th career hit and brought up Chris Bulk who blasted his third home run of the season, a two-run shot to dead center. Curry battled back however in the bottom half of the second after a one-run and two-run singles tied it up 3-3. The Colonels would take the lead as Brandon Polanco sent a double down the left field line to score two more and give Curry a 5-3 lead after two.

The Lasers weren't done yet however, a bases loaded walk brough them to within one and a sacrifice fly from senior Ross Audet tied it yet again 5-5. The very next batter, Baumann would lay down a sacrifice bunt to score Edwards and give Lasell a 6-5 lead. A single from Jared Whitby would score another laser run and after Bulk drew a walk, CJ Mills hit a single that would score Whitby as the lasers led 8-5. The very next batter Callahan singled for his second hit of the day driving in Bulk and a Connor Freitas two-run double added on to make it 11-5. Edwards ripped another single to left scoring Freitas and the nine-run third inning came to an end for the Lasers, leading 12-5. Lasell would score one more run in the fourth on a Bulk sacrifice fly to make it 13-5.

Ty Lohsen got the start for the Lasers going four innings allowing six hits and five runs while striking out one. Darek Lallo (2-0) earned the win giving up just one hit in his lone inning. Brendan Zaleski, Pierce Clare, Ethan Bernardo, and Adam Marsh each tossed hitless innings helping the Lasers out of the bullpen.

Offensively for Lasell Callahan led the way going three for five with a double, one RBI and scoring three runs. Edwards also had three hits in his four at bats driving in two. Freitas doubled and singled and drove in two runs as well and Baumann, Mills and Whitby had two hits and one RBI each. Bulk homered and collected three RBIs and Dave Egan also singled.

Up Next – The Lasers hit the road again, traveling to Emerson on Friday for a matchup with the Lions. First pitch is slated for 3:30 pm at the NEBC Baseball complex in Northborough, MA.
