BSB: Lasers Close Out Florida Trip on Three Game Winning Streak

Fort Pierce, FL - The Lasell Baseball team wrapped up their spring break trip by going 3-1 across their final four games, to end the trip with a 4-6 record, and are now 8-6 on the season.

Game One vs Monmouth

The Lasers struck first, scoring two runs in the second on a two RBI single from David Egan. But Monmouth responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to take the lead. The Lasers would tie things up in the sixth on a two RBI single from Brad Edwards. But once again Monmouth would respond, scoring the eventual winning run in the sixth. The Lasers would fall 5-4.

Ross Audet recorded three hits. Owen Caldwell would get the loss on the mound, pitching two innings of relief, and allowing the one run.

Game Two vs Northwestern (MN)

In the first game of a doubleheader, the Lasers won a pitcher's duel 1-0 over Northwestern (MN). The lone run came in the fourth on a passed ball. The two teams each had three hits. For the Lasers, Adam Marsh pitched a complete game, going all seven innings, throwing just 66 pitches. He allowed just three hits, and struck out nine, with zero walks.

Game Three vs Northwestern (MN)

In the second game of the doubleheader, there was more offense, with the Lasers winning 5-3. After UNW got out to a 1-0 lead in the first, the Lasers answered with three in the bottom half of the inning, the first two on a Scott Lyon single. They would add the third run on a ground out. A Connor Freitas single drove home two more runs for the Lasers in the fourth to make it 5-1. Northwestern would score two in the sixth to make things interesting, but the Lasers shut the door on them in the seventh to take home the win.

Matthew Fletcher went the first six innings for the Lasers, allowing just six hits and three runs. He struck out seven and walked only one for the win. He was relieved by Darek Lallo, who picked up his first save of the season by pitching the final inning.

The Lasers swept the doubleheader despite having only six total hits between the two games.

Game Four vs Thiel

The Lasers wrapped up their trip with an 8-2 win over Thiel, ending the trip on a three game winning streak. They opened the scoring in the third with four runs. A scott Lyon two RBI single was sandwiched between sacrifice flies from Tim callahan and Ross Audet. After a two run homer from Thiel in the fourth, the Lasers would slowly build their lead back up, scoring a run in the fourth, sixth, seventh, and eighth, taking the game 8-2.

Connor Freitas led the way at the plate with three hits, while Jonah Nielsen and Christopher Bulk each had two. Jeremy Blackwood went the first four innings for the Lasers, while Zachary Simone picked up the win by going five innings of relief. Simone allowed just two hits while allowing no runs.

Up next - The Lasers will next play on Wednesday when they travel to Curry for a 3pm game.
