Port St. Lucie, FL - The Lasell University baseball team began their annual spring break trip with a tough doubleheader lost to the Kenyon College Owls, 2-1 and 4-2.

Game One:

The Lasers threw the first punch, getting on the scoreboard in the second inning. Graduate student Scott Lyon ripped a double into right center with one out in the inning. Shortly after, senior CJ Mills singled up the middle to bring Lyon home.

However, Kenyon would strike back. After a walk, single and another walk, the Owls would have bases loaded with one out when Drew Robinson singled to center to make it a 1-1 ballgame. After the fourth inning, both sides were into their bullpens and the bullpens held strong in the fifth and sixth, not allowing either team to score.

In the bottom of the seventh, back-to-back batters for Kenyon singled, putting runners on first and second. Robinson came up again and singled to right field scoring Ben Zimmerman and giving the Owls a 2-1 win.

Marsh threw four innings for the Lasers, allowing three hits, and one run, while walking three and striking out four. Darek Lallo and Brendan Zaleski came in relief, each throwing a scoreless inning. Ethan Bernardo earned the loss for Lasell allowing three hits and one run.

Offensively for the Lasers, Mills and Lyon were both one for two, while Bryan Baumann, Brad Edwards and Jared Whitby all each added a single.

Game Two:

Game two was much of the same from game one, a hard-nosed, gritty battle. Kenyon would jump out early this game, scoring in the top of the first when Malcolm Gaynor singled up the middle to score Robinson. In the third inning Kenyon would tag on two more runs. Gaynor walked and advanced on a wild pitch and later scored on a single to center. Another wild pitch moved the runner to second and again would score on a single up the middle.

The Lasers kept battling though, in the fourth inning Junior Tim Callahan got things started with a single and Lyon followed him with a single of his own. The very next batter, Edwards doubled in Callahan and the Lasers had second and third with no outs. Baumann stepped up and grounded a ball to the shortstop which allowed Lyon to score.

The Owls extended their lead in the sixth inning when a wild pitch allowed a runner to score from third. That would be the final run of the game and Kenyon would go on to win 4-2.

Matthew Fletcher was on the mound for the Lasers and got the loss. Fletcher allowed seven hits and three runs, walking just one and striking out three over three innings.

The Laser offense was led by Edwards who went two for three with a double and an RBI. Junior Chris Bulk ripped a triple, going one for three and Callahan, Lyon and Dave Egan each singled.

Up Next – The Lasers play two again tomorrow when they take on Washington College at 10 am.
