BSB: Lasers fall to Brandeis in non-conference battle

Waltham, Mass. – The Lasell University Lasers baseball team fell in a non-conference doubleheader against the Brandeis University Judges, 22-1 and 6-2, Saturday at Stein Diamond.

The matchup moves Lasell to 8-18 overall while Brandeis improves to 12-3 on the year.

The Lasers will be back in action on Thusday April 29, when they take on Rivier in a single conference game. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 P.M.

Game 1- Lasell 1 Brandeis 22

Senior Luke Hall (Georgetown, Mass.) got the scoring started in the first inning when he doubled home a run.

The Judges pulled away in the third inning with the help of a 13-run inning. Senior Mike Koury (East Bridgewater, Mass.) got the inning started with a solo homerun. A single and a double by the Judges brought home a second and third run of the inning. Senior Issac Fossas (Dudley, Mass.) led Brandeis in the inning with four RBIs and two doubles. Senior Dan Frey (Ipswich, Mass.) and Sophomore Steven Simon (Hannover, Mass.) had two RBIs in the inning.

Senior Tyrek Robinson (West Hartford, Conn.) singled home the first run for the Lasers in the fourth inning.

The bottom half of the inning saw the Judges hit two homeruns first off, the bat of Hall which was a two-run homerun. Senior Darren Bates (Jamestown, R.I.) hit a three-run homerun.

Graduate student Tommy Sand (South Windsor, Conn.) double home a run and then came home to score on an error to cap the scoring for the game.

Graduate student Greg Tobin (Medway, Mass.) got the win for Brandeis going six innings, while allowing one run on six hits striking out five. Hall went three for three with four RBIs and Fossas went two for four with four RBIs. Bates collected three RBIs in his one pinch hit appearance. Junior Matt Motyka (Vernon, Conn.) went two for three leading the Lasers in hits.

Game 2- Lasell 2 Brandeis 6

Lasell got the first run on the board scoring in the top of the first on an RBI single by sophomore Ross Audet (Swansea, Mass.).

Brandeis answered in the bottom half of the inning following a sacrifice fly off the bat of Frey.

The Judges took the lead in the second inning when sophomore Brian King (Palos Verde, Calif.) hit a two-run homerun.

Fossas got in on the homerun action in the third inning when he hit a two-run blast of his own.

Brandeis scored their final run of the game in the fifth inning when Fossas scored on an error.

Senior Wyatt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn.) added one more to the Laser total in the seventh inning when he singled bringing home the final run of the game for both sides.

Sophomore Asher Kaplan (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) got the win for the Judges going six and two-thirds allowing one earned run on six hits while striking out seven. Fossas and King both had two RBIs apiece and graduate student Victor Oppenheimer (West Hills, Calif.) led the Judges with two hits. Sihvonen led the Lasers with two hits and him and Audet both had one RBI apiece.
