BSB: Hot bats in game two help Lasers split conference twinbill

Northborough, Mass. – The Lasell University Lasers baseball team split a conference doubleheader against the Anna Maria College Amcats, 3-2 and 16-10, Friday at the New England Baseball Complex.

Lasell improves to 8-16 overall and 7-5 in the GNAC while Anna Maria moves to 13-8 overall and 5-3 in the GNAC.

The Lasers will be in action again tomorrow, April 24 when they take on Brandeis in a non-conference doubleheader. The first pitch of the game is scheduled for 12:00 P.M. while the second game is scheduled to start at 2:30 P.M.

Game 1 – Lasell 2 Anna Maria 3

Anna Maria got on the board with their first at bats of the game on an RBI single by senior Noah Holland (Sandwich, Mass.).

Lasell brought the game back level in the third inning when senior Charlie Danaher (Guilford, Conn.) singled home a run.

The Amcats had an immediate answer in the bottom half of the inning following a sacrifice fly by junior Kosta Drosidis (Holden, Mass.).

Drosidis gave Anna Maria a little security in the sixth inning when he hit a solo homerun to left center to push the Amcat lead to two.

The Lasers added one in the seventh inning when senior Harrison Silva (Lowell, Mass.) scored on a throwing error but, it was not enough as Anna Maria took game one.

Freshman Darek Lallo (Warwick, R.I.) went six strong while only allowing five hits and three runs in a losing effort. Danaher went two for three with an RBI. Senior Jack Marzec got the win for Anna Maria while going the distance and only allowing one earned run with nine strikeouts. Drosidis led the Amcats on offense going one for one with two RBIs.

Game 2 – Lasell 16 Anna Maria 10

Lasell opened the scoring in the first inning when senior Joe Sullivan (Sandwich, Mass.) walked home a run. Sophomore Ross Audet (Swansea, Mass.) hit a ground-rule double to center field that brought home two. Junior Matt Bischof (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) added three more runs on one swing of the bat capping off a six-run inning for the Lasers.

Anna Maria clawed one back in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI double by sophomore James Powers (Folscom, Calif.).

Runs were scored in bunches in the second inning by the Amcats the first two came off the bat of senior Adam Twitchell (Shrewsbury, Mass.) when he doubled to left center. Junior Jarrod Marifiote (Framingham, Mass.) tied the game on a home run to left center scoring three.

Anna Maria took the lead in the third inning on a homerun by senior Nick Genatossio (Sutton, Mass.).

The lead did not last long for the Amcats as Lasell had an answer in the fourth inning tying the game on a Danaher double. Sullivan gave the Lasers back the lead when he hit a three-run homer to left field.

The Lasell lead did not last an entire inning with the Amcats answering in the bottom half of the inning. Drosidis pulled Anna Maria one back when he singled home Twitchell only to be followed up by a homerun by Powers in the next at bat.

Silva gave Lasell the lead once again when he hit a solo homerun to left field. Senior Wyatt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn.) brought home a second run in the fifth on an RBI single.

Two more runs came across in the sixth inning first on an RBI single by Audet and the second came across when freshman Bryan Baumann (Deerfield, Mass.) was hit by a pitch.

Silva capped the scoring for the Lasers and the game in the seventh inning when he singled home two runs sealing the game two win for Lasell.

Senior Sean Doris (Lincoln, R.I.) got the win in relief for Lasell throwing two innings and giving up three hits. Sullivan led the Lasers with four RBIs and four Runs scored. Audet's three hits in the game led the Lasers and he added three RBIs as well. Both Bischof and Silva had three RBIs apiece and Silva added two hits. Danaher and Sihvonen both went two for four in the second game. Powers and Marifiote both had three RBIs for the Amcats while Powers, Twitchell and Drosidis had three hits apiece.
