BSB: Lasell falls to Brandeis in non-conference rematch

Waltham, Mass. – The Lasell University Lasers baseball team falls to the Brandeis University Judges, 7-3 and 12-2, in a non-conference clash at Stein Diamond.

This was the second match-up between the two teams that share the same field. Lasell fell to 5-15, while Brandeis improved to 8-1.

Lasell will be in action again on Saturday April 17, when they take on Dean in a conference doubleheader, with first pitch scheduled for 4:00 P.M. and game two scheduled for 6:30.

Game 1 – Lasell 3 Brandeis 7

Lasell opened the scoring in game one when sophomore Rafael Rosado (Lynn, Mass.) singled home a run. Freshman Bryan Baumann (Deerfield, Mass.) brought home the second run of the second inning when he grounded out.

Brandeis took the lead with one swing in the third inning when senior Mike Khoury (East Bridgewater, Mass.) hit a three-run homerun.

In the fourth inning the Judges added two more first on a sacrifice fly by sophomore Drew Michaud (Madison, Conn.) and the second run came home on an error.

The Lasers got one back in the fifth inning on an RBI single off the bat of sophomore Ross Audet (Swansea, Mass.) to cut the lead to two.

The final runs of the game were scored in the bottom of the fifth inning. The first run came home on a throwing error and the second run came home on a double by sophomore Brian King (Palos Verde, Calif.).

Graduate student Greg Tobin (Medway, Mass.) earned the win while giving up five hits and striking out eight. Khoury had three RBIs all coming off the homerun and King went three for three with an RBI.

Game 2 – Lasell 2 Brandeis 12

King got the Judges on the board in the second inning when he doubled to left center bringing home two runs.

Senior Dan Frey (Ipswich, Mass.) added another to the Brandeis lead on a double to center field.

Brandeis opened the game up in the fourth inning first on an RBI single by Michaud then followed up by an RBI fielder's choice by Khoury. Senior Luke Hall (Georgetown, Mass.) singled home Michaud for the Judges third run of the inning. Frey singled home Khoury and then scored on a wild pitch to cap off a five-run inning.

Lasell got one back in the fifth inning when senior Wyatt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn.) homered to left field to get the Lasers on the board.

Senior Jimmy Griffin (Worcester, Mass.) tripled to right field in the sixth inning to bring home a second run for the Lasers.

Brandeis added three more in the bottom of the inning two of which came off the bat of senior Isaac Fossas (Dudley, Mass.) on a single up the middle. King capped off the scoring for Brandeis and the game when he doubled home Fossas.

Sophomore Asher Kaplan (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) got the win for the Judges only allowing two runs in six innings of work. King had three RBIs, Fossas had two RBIs and Frey went three for four with two RBIs. Senior Charlie Danaher (Guliford, Conn.) and Sihvonen each had two hits apiece in the loss.
