BSB: Lasell splits conference rematch against Albertus Magnus

Waltham, Mass. – The Lasell University Lasers baseball team split the conference match against the Albertus Magnus College Falcons, 13-3 and 6-3, Sunday at Stein Diamond.

The matchup moves the Lasers to 5-13 overall and 4-4 in the GNAC while Albertus Magnus moves to 2-4 overall and 2-4 in the GNAC.

Lasell will be in action this Wednesday April 14 when they take on Brandeis in a doubleheader. First pitch for game one is slated for 3:00 P.M. and game two scheduled to begin at 5:30.

Game 1 – Lasell 13 Albertus Magnus 3

The Lasers got the scoring started in the first inning when sophomore Ross Audet (Swansea, Mass.) scored after stealing third. He came home after the catcher threw the ball off junior Matt Motyka (Vernon, Conn.) and it bounced out of play.

Albertus Magnus answered in the top of the second when sophomore Jason Sullivan (Meriden, Conn.) scored on a wild pitch. The Falcons grabbed the lead from the Lasers on an RBI single by junior Joseph Matthews (Anaheim, Calif.).

The lead for the Falcons was shorted lived as Lasell answered in their at bats in the second. Senior Tyrek Robinson (West Hartford, Conn.) doubled home two runs giving the Lasers back the lead. Audet gave Lasell a two-run cushion when he singled home Robinson. Lasell added two more to their lead in the inning first coming off the bats of senior Charlie Danaher (Guilford, Conn.) and junior Matt Bischof (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) who each had RBI singles.

The Falcons got one back in the sixth when Sullivan hit a home run to right center that hit a light post.

Bischof got the Lasers started in the sixth in what would be another big inning for them with a two RBI single up the middle. After coming into pinch run freshman Bryan Baumann (Deerfield, Mass.) scored on a wild pitch. The next two runs were scored on errors with senior Sean Doris (Lincoln, R.I.) scoring the first and Audet scoring the second. Danaher added a second RBI to his tally when he singled to center field giving the Lasers the eight-run cushion.

Freshman CJ Mills (Waltham, Mass.) went six strong innings giving up only four hits while striking out five to earn his first career victory. Danaher led the game in hits on route to a four for four day at the plate while grabbing two RBI. Robinson went two for three and had two RBIs. Audet also had two hits while scoring three runs and knocking in one run and Bischof went two for three with 3 RBI.

Game 2 – Lasell 3 Albertus Magnus 6

The Falcons got the scoring started in game two when senior Matt Warren (Wolcott, Conn.) homered to right field in the first inning.

Albertus Magnus added a second on a fielder's choice off the bat of sophomore Alex Kozlowski (Shelton, Conn.).

Lasell answered right back in the bottom of the second when graduate student Joe Sullivan (Sandwich, Mass.) homered to right center cutting the Falcons lead to one.

The Falcons had an answer in the third when Sullivan doubled home a run to return the lead back to two.

The trading of runs continued in the bottom of the third inning first with Danaher singling through the left side bringing home a run. Senior Harrison Silva (Lowell, Mass.) slapped a single in front of the right fielder to bring home Motyka to tie the game a three.

Warren gave the Falcons back the lead when he singled home one run. He was followed up by Sullivan who singled through the left side to bring home a second run for the Falcons in the fifth.

Albertus Magnus added another run in the sixth inning when senior Brandon Clark (Cheshire, Conn.) singled home a run to give the Falcons a three-run lead. The lead held for the Falcons as they took game two.

Sophomore Sean Jefferson (West Haven, Conn.) got the win for the Falcons going all seven allowing seven hits and three runs. Both Warren and Sullivan had two hits and two RBIs for Albertus Magnus. Motyka went three for four at the plate and Sullivan went yard for the Lasers.
