BSB: Lasell falls to Brandeis in non-conference battle

Waltham, Mass – The Lasell University Lasers baseball team fell to the Brandeis University Judges in a non-conference match up, 7-2 and 2-0, Wednesday at Stein Diamond.

The losses move Lasell to 4-10 on the year while Brandeis improves to 4-1.

The Lasers will take on Saint Joseph's College of Maine Saturday, April 10, with first pitch at 10:00 A.M and the second game scheduled to begin at 12:30 P.M.

Game 1 – Lasell 2 Brandeis 7

The Lasers were the first team to get on the board in the first inning on an RBI single by senior Charlie Danaher (Guilford, Conn.).

Brandeis had an answer to Lasell in the second when senior Dan Frey (Ipswich, Mass.) came home to score on a wild pitch. Sophomore Brian King (Palos Verde, Calif.) singled home the next run for the Judges giving them the lead. Brandeis tacked on one more in the inning when graduate student Victor Oppenheimer (West Hills, Calif.) scored on a double play.

The Judges found a way to get on the board again in the third inning on an RBI ground out by Frey.

In the fourth inning Brandeis tacked in three more runs the first of which came in on an error which scored Oppenheim. Sophomore Steven Simon (Hanover, Mass.) brought home King with an RBI double and later came home to score on an error.

The seventh inning saw the Lasers get on the board one last time when sophomore Ross Audet (Swanea Mass.) scored on an error.

Graduate Student Joe Sullivan (Sandwich, Mass.) and Audet led the Lasers with two hits apiece. Graduate Student Greg Tobin (Medway, Mass.) got the win for Brandeis going six innings and striking out nine.

Game 2 – Lasell 0 Brandeis 2

Brandeis got the scoring started in the third inning when Simon came home to score on a balk.

The Judges found their way onto the scoreboard again in the fourth inning when King singled home Frey to give Brandeis a two-run lead. This lead held throughout the remainder of the game as no more runs were scored.

Sophomore Asher Kaplan (Jamaica Plain, Mass.) got the win for Brandeis going the distance while only allowing three hits and striking out five.
