BSB: Lasell earns first conference sweep in clash with Norwich

Waltham, Mass. – The Lasell University Lasers baseball team earned their first conference sweep of the season against the Norwich University Cadets, 5-1 and 5-2, Tuesday night at Stein Diamond.

The highlight for the Lasers was freshman Darek Lallo (Warwick, R.I.) who pitched six strong innings in game one, while only allowing four hits and striking out five to grab the win.

Lasell is scheduled for a non-conference clash on Wednesday April 7th, when they will take on Brandeis at 3:00 and 5:30 P.M.

Game 1 – Lasell 5 Norwich 1

The Lasers wasted no time getting on the board scoring in the first inning when graduate student Joe Sullivan (Sandwich, Mass.) singled to center field to bring home a run.

Senior Justin Banks (Corona, Calif.) helped Lasell score their second run after reaching on an error which allowed a run to score from third.

The bats for the Lasers got hot in in the fifth inning scoring their first of the inning on a single by junior Matt Motyka (Vernon, Conn.). That was followed up by a two RBI single by sophomore Ross Audet (Swansea, Mass.) scoring both Sullivan and Motyka giving the Lasers a five-run cushion.

Norwich did not go down quietly finding a way to score a run in the sixth inning when freshman Ryland Richardson (Windsor, Vt.) came home on a wild pitch. That would not be enough as Lasell would take game one of the doubleheader.

Senior Wyatt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn.) went two for three and scored two runs, while Sullivan went two for three as well. Audet led the Lasers with two RBIs.

Game 2 – Lasell 5 Norwich 2

Norwich got the scoring started first in the third inning on an RBI single to center field by junior Hayden Roberge (Middlesex, Vt.). Junior Tanner Taymond (Southbury, Conn.) helped his own cause on the mound by bringing home a run on an error.

Lasell did not trail for long because of senior Harrison Silva (Lowell, Mass.) who smacked a double to left field that brought home two Lasers evening the game at the end of three.

Senior Sean Doris (Lincoln, R.I.) wasted no time giving the Lasers back the lead when he singled home Sihvonen in the fourth inning. Senior Charlie Danaher (Guilford, Conn.) added another run to the Lasers total on an RBI single that scored Doris. Lasell scored their last run of the inning on an errant pickoff attempt that scored Motyka from third. This put the Lasers up three-runs and they would hold on from there to win the game.

Motyka was solid at the both the plate and on the mound going two for four at the plate and pitching a scoreless inning while striking out two too pick up the save. Doris also picked up two hits in four at bats while driving in a run. Silva led the Lasers in game two with two RBIs. Graduate student Lorenzo Davis (West Haven, Conn.) went four innings and got the win for the Lasers.
