BSB: Lasell drops doubleheader to Trinity

Hartford, Conn. – The Lasell Univeristy Lasers baseball team dropped both games of a nonconference doubleheader against the Trinity College Bantams, 5-3 and 15-8, at DiBenedetto Stadium.

The Lasers move to 2-8 on the year and are back in action Friday for a conference doubleheader against Norwich. First pitch will be at 4:00 P.M. and the second game is scheduled to start at 6:30 P.M.

Game 1 – Lasell 3 Trinity 5

Trinity got the scoring started in the first inning, first on a two RBI single by senior Vincent Capone (Lower Gwynedd, PA.) and junior Colin Mann (Dedham, Mass.) brought home the third run of the inning on a single.

The Lasers started to claw back in the next inning first on an error off the bat of senior Mario Kiaunis (West Haven, Conn.) that scored fellow classmate Chris Paulino (Wilton, Conn.). Lasell would push a second run across in the inning on a passed ball that allowed senior Wyatt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn.) to score.

The Bantams answered in the third when freshman Sean Meth (Sands Point, N.Y.) doubled home a run. The next batter senior Alex Rodriguez (South Windsor, Conn.) would double as well to bring home Meth and push the Bantams lead back to three.

Lasell fought back in the sixth when junior Matt Motyka (Vernon, Conn.) had an RBI ground out to bring home sophomore Ross Audet (Swansea, Mass.). That was the only run the Lasers scored in the inning and Lasell could not come back to win game 1.

Game 2 – Lasell 8 Trinity 15

Lasell jumped out to a quick lead to start off the game on an RBI double by graduate student Joe Sullivan (Sandwich Mass.).

Trinity got on the board with their first at bats as well first with a run coming off an error and then junior Mike Guanci (Wakefield, Mass.) singled home a run.

The Bantams kept the scoring going in the second inning when freshman Bennett Teceno (Centerville, Mass.) hit a two-run homerun. Meth would add another with a single and freshman John Flannigan (Syosset, N.Y) collected an RBI on a hit by pitch. Guanci added a second RBI of the game on a sacrifice fly and senior Eric Thronson (Mclean, VA.) doubled home two. Sophomore Andrew Tuozzolo (Pittstown, N.J.) singled home a run, Teceno singled home his third RBI of the inning and freshman Jack Mathews (Westport, Conn.) singled home a run to end the inning.

Lasell would climb one back in the third on an RBI double by Motyka that scored Sihvonen from second.

Trinity added another in the bottom half of the inning when Thronson hit a double to bring in two runs.

Lasell scored two back in the fourth on an RBI ground out by Kiaunis and an RBI single by Audet.

Trinity came back in the bottom half with an RBI single by Meth.

The Lasers would be the final team on the board with a strong sixth inning started off with an Audet RBI single. Senior Jimmy Griffin (Worcester, Mass.) singled home Kiaunis and Motyka singled home Sihvonen. The final run for the Lasers was scored after Griffin stole third base and scored on a throwing error.

Motyka went three for four in game two with two RBIs; Audet was two for four with two RBIs as well and Griffin was two for four with a couple runs scored.
