BB: Lasell drops pair at Suffolk to finish weekend series

EAST BOSTON, Mass. – The Lasell University baseball team suffered a pair of lopsided losses Sunday at Suffolk University to wrap up a four-game series against the Ram at the East Boston Memorial Field. Suffolk took the opener, 15-2, before winning the nightcap, 11-2.

The Rams piled up 26 runs on 24 hits in the twin bill, while Lasell managed just six runs on seven hits. Suffolk improves to 3-1 on the season, while the Lasers drop to 1-4.

Lasell is slated to open its home season next Saturday with its Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) debut against Albertus Magnus College.

Game 1 – Suffolk 15, Lasell 2

Suffolk put the game away early on with three runs in the first inning and six more in the second. Junior Shane Lake (West Roxbury, Mass.) and graduate student Christian Seariac (Framingham, Mass.) had RBI singles to highlight the first inning rally, and Lake's three-run double keyed the second-inning outburst.

Lasell got on the board in the third inning when senior Wyatt Sihvonen (Lebanon, Conn.) reached on an error and later scored on an infield single by Brian Cipolla (Cranston, R.I.).

The Rams extended their lead with three runs in the top of the fifth before Lasell scored its final run in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run by senior Chris Paulino (Wilton, Conn.). Suffolk rounded out the scoring with three runs in the top of the seventh, highlighted by a two-run home run by Michael James, Jr. (Norwood, Mass.)

Junior Michael Muscarella (Melrose, Mass.) pitched six innings for Suffolk to earn the win, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks, striking out 10. Freshman Tyler Perkins (Ledyard, Conn.) started for Lasell and took the loss.

The Rams again took an early lead and never looked back, scoring four times in the second and third innings and adding two in the fourth and one in the fifth. Junior Timothy McCarthy (Beverly, Mass.) had an RBI double and a three-run home run to highlight the offensive outburst, and graduate student Brigham (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) had a pair of RBI doubles.

Lasell scored its two runs in the sixth inning when sophomore Ross Audet (Swansea, Mass.) walked and junior Matt Bischof (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) hit a two-run homer to left center.

Junior EJ Birch (Menands, N.Y.) earned the win for Suffolk, pitching six innings and allowing two runs on two hits and two walks, striking out seven. Sophomore Jay Giangrande (Andover, Mass.) started and took the loss for Lasell.
