BB: Lasell blanks Curry for non-conference win

MILTON, Mass. – Junior Chris O'Connor (Duxbury, Mass.) pitched eight shutout innings Wednesday afternoon as Lasell College blanked Curry College, 4-0, in non-conference baseball action in the Colonels' home opener at Jack Vallely Diamond.

O'Connor allowed just six hits and a walk while striking out two to post his first win (1-1) of the season. Senior Evan Michalek (Berlin, Conn.) pitched a scoreless ninth inning to preserve the whitewash. Lasell improves to 10-7 overall while Curry drops to 5-8-1.

Junior Joe Sullivan (East Sandwich, Mass.) led the Laser offense with a double and a triple and an RBI, while senior Chris Maringo (Farmingville, N.Y.) also had two hits.

Lasell scored the only run it would need in the fourth inning when Maringo and senior Andre Marchesseault (Cheshire, Conn.) led off with singles, and senior Brett Sherron (Howard Beach, N.Y.) brought Maringo home with a sacrifice fly.

The Lasers added two more runs in the eighth inning as Sullivan tripled down the right field line and scored on a single by senior Zach Herring (Fresno, Calif.). After a walk and a sacrifice bunt, freshman Matt Bischof (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) brought home Herring with a sacrifice fly to center. Lasell tacked on an insurance run in the ninth when Sullivan delivered an RBI double down the right field line.

Lasell returns to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday, March 30, hosting Anna Maria College at Brandeis University's Stein Diamond, beginning at 3 p.m. Curry will get right back to work Thursday, hosting the Babson College Beavers at 3:30 p.m. on the Jack Vallely Diamond.
