Three Lasell Baseball players earn GNAC post-season honors

NEWTON, Mass. – Three members of the Lasell College baseball team were honored Tuesday with selection to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference All-Conference Team for the 2018 season. The All-GNAC Teams are selected by a vote of the league's head coaches.

Junior third baseman Andre Marchesseault (Cheshire, Conn.) and freshman outfielder/pitcher Sean Doris (Lincoln, R.I.) were named to the All-GNAC First Team, and junior second baseman/pitcher David Marsell (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) was voted to the Third Team. Marchesseault makes his second appearance on the All-GNAC Team, while the other two are first-time selections.

Marchesseault led the team and ranked fifth in the GNAC with a .368 batting average (35-for-95), with seven doubles, two home runs, 14 runs scored and 19 runs batted in. He was also sixth in the conference in on-base percentage (.451) and 12th in slugging percentage (.505). He hit safely in 11 of his last 12 games, including three-hit outings against Eastern Nazarene College, GNAC runner-up Saint Joseph's College and Norwich University in the conference tournament play-in game. He drove in four runs in the play-in game against Norwich and knocked in five runs with an RBI single and a grand slam in a game against Emerson College. Marchesseault moves up to the All-GNAC First Team this season after earning Third Team accolades last year.

Doris made a big impact on the team in his rookie season, batting .288 (21-for-73) with three doubles and 10 runs scored as a starting right fielder. He was also a regular in the Laser pitching rotation, starting six games and posting a 3-3 record with a 3.49 earned run average. Doris allowed 16 runs (11 earned) on 23 hits in 28.1 innings, striking out 26. He tied for the team lead in wins, ranked third in starts and strikeouts, and fourth in innings pitched and ERA. He earned back-to-back GNAC Rookie of the Week honors in mid-April, the second one after pitching a complete-game one-hit shutout over GNAC foe Norwich, striking out 12 batters in seven innings.

Marsell was also a dual threat for the Lasers, batting .337 (34-for-101) as the starting second baseman with a pair of doubles, 13 runs scored and 11 RBI. He was also third on the team with six stolen bases, and made just two errors in the field in 95 attempts for a .979 field percentage. On the mound, he posted a 3-3 record with a 2.67 ERA, matching Doris for the team lead in victories and ranking second in ERA, first among starters. He pitched 30.1 innings, allowing 11 runs (nine earned) on 24 hits, striking out 17.

Additionally, junior pitcher Brian Cohen (Rockland, Mass.) was Lasell's representative on the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

The Lasers finished with a 10-21 overall record and a 7-7 mark in the GNAC under eighth-year head coach Greg Harjula. The fourth seed in the conference tournament, Lasell knocked off Norwich in a play-in game before suffering tough losses to eventual champion Suffolk, 6-5 in 10 innings, and runner-up Saint Joseph's College (Maine), 9-5.
