Lasell Baseball Freshman receives GNAC Weekly Honors

NEWTON, Mass. – A top freshman on the Lasell College baseball team received a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) honors Monday afternoon after an outstanding week on the diamond, as announced by the league office.

Freshman Sean Doris (Lincoln, R.I.) was named both GNAC Baseball Pitcher and Rookie of the Week, earning the top rookie honor for the second week in a row. He was a standout as the Lasers split a pair of conference doubleheaders.

A 6'3" lefthander, Doris pitched a complete-game, one-hit shutout over Norwich University with 12 strikeouts in seven innings. He also batted .529 (9-for-17) in six games with a double and three runs scored, including four multi-hit games.

The rookie lefty struck out the side in the first inning in his start against Norwich after issuing a walk and didn't allow another baserunner until a lead-off walk in the fourth. Doris' no-hit attempt was broken up with a lead-off double in sixth inning, but he struck out the next three batters to avoid any trouble, and fanned two of three batters in a perfect seventh inning to complete the victory.

Doris also went 3-for-6 in a doubleheader split with Norwich, with two hits in game one, and went 4-for-6 with a double in a doubleheader split at Johnson & Wales University with two hits in each game.

Doris ranks eighth in the GNAC with a .383 batting average (18-for-47), and ranks 17th in the conference with 21 strikeouts as a pitcher.

Lasell (5-15, 4-4 GNAC) plays non-conference midweek games Wednesday, April 18, at Eastern Nazarene College (3:00 p.m.) and Thursday, April 19, at Framingham State University (3:30 p.m.) before GNAC twin bills at the New England Baseball Complex Friday, April 20, at 3:00 p.m. against Saint Joseph's College (Maine) and Sunday, April 22, at 4:00 p.m. vs. Anna Maria College.
