Fort Myers, Fla. (3/23/13) - The Lasell College baseball team lost to Otterbein University, 6-2 in the conclusion of their postponed match-up against the Cardinals. The game which began the day before resumed play in the second inning of action. Lasell fell to 1-4 on their southern trip with the loss.
Rob Madden (Hingham, Mass.) had a pair of singles for Lasell, scoring once and driving in a run. Bobby Stachura (Middletown, Conn.) added a double and a run scored for the Lasers, and Dustin Brown (Falmouth, Mass.), Jacob Salkovitz (Brockton, Mass.) and Evan Mozingo (Brookfield, Conn.) each singled in the game.
Greg Sherman (Marshfield, Mass.) started the game for Lasell, allowing a run in one inning of work and was replaced in the lineup when play resumed. David Long (Brookfield, Conn.) threw two scoreless inning for Lasell, allowing two hits and striking out five. AJ Mackenzie (Pasadena, Md.) took the loss for Lasell, yielding four runs on the afternoon, and pitching one inning. Gary Trotteir (Rehoboth, Mass.) allowed one run and three hits while pitching two innings and striking out one. Dominick Marciano (Locust Vally, N.Y.) recorded one punchout in a scoreless seventh inning.
Sean Kettering drove in a run in the first inning for the Cardinals, when Tyler Kent scored on the fielder's choice groundout.
Lasell evened things up in the second when Stachura was hit by a pitch and scored on Madden's RBI single. David Long worked out of a jam in the top of the third, recording back-to-back strikeouts with runners on second and third.
The Cardinals scored two runs in the fourth inning and another pair in the fifth to push their lead to 5-1 heading into the Lasell half of the fifth inning. Madden and Salkovitz opened the bottom half of the frame with consecutive singles, and Madden came around to score when Jackson Gervais (Rehoboth, Mass.) grounded into a double play.
Otterbein tacked on one more run in the top of the sixth for the final 6-2 margin.
