Female Lasers Rack Up Weekly GNAC Awards

Newton, MA - The GNAC announced their weekly awards on Monday, and five female Lasers picked up an award across three sports.

In Women's Cross Country, sophomore Kiara Cerruti was named the Runner of the Week after cruising to a third place finish on Saturday (Oct. 7) at the Runnin' Monks Invitational, helping Lasell place second at the meet. She completed the 6K course in 27:00, the fastest time by a GNAC competitor in the event.

In Field Hockey, it was a repeat of last week as Sheridan Blaha and Courtney Tello each won an award. Blaha was named the Player of the week after she displayed an impressive offensive performance this week for Lasell. On Wednesday (Oct. 4), she netted a hat trick and notched an assist en route to an 11-0 victory over Dean. Then on Saturday (Oct. 7), Blaha duplicated that same performance in a 6-1 victory over Colby-Sawyer. After her stellar week, the senior forward now leads the conference in goals and points. Tello wrapped up her fourth Goalie of the Week award on the season after she picked up the victory over Dean in 30 minutes of action on Wednesday (Oct. 4). Then, on Saturday (Oct. 7), she made 10 saves in a 6-1 victory over Colby-Sawyer. She is currently second in the conference in save percentage, goals-against, and goals-against average.

Wrapping up the Lasell winners was Women's Soccer as Evelyn DiFiore and Lataya Simmons each were honored. DiFiore was named the Player of the Week after she netted two goals and picked up an assist on Wednesday (Oct. 4) to earn five points in a 6-2 victory over Albertus Magnus. On Saturday (Oct. 7), she found the back of the net once, which was also the game-winning goal, in a 3-0 win over New England College. Her teammate Simmons was named the Goalie of the Week for the second time this season after she recorded seven saves against Albertus Magnus on Wednesday (Oct. 4), while picking up the victory. Then, on Saturday (Oct. 7), she recorded a shutout over New England College. Simmons is currently second in the conference in both wins and shutouts, while also placing third in save percentage.
