NEWTON, Mass. – With the turn of the calendar to February, the Lasell College spring sports teams have begun practices and are gearing up for the 2018 seasons. The game schedules have been released and are now available online on the official website for Lasell Athletics – laserpride.lasell.edu.
The defending Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's lacrosse champion Lasers will open up the season on Wednesday, February 28, at Roger Williams University (4:00 p.m.), with the first home game at Grellier Field slated for Thursday, March 8, vs. Plymouth State University (3:00 p.m.) The team will play a Spring Break game against the University of New England at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md., on Friday, March 16, and will open defense of its GNAC championship against Saint Joseph's College of Maine on Wednesday, March 28.
The Laser women's lacrosse team will play its first three games on home turf at Grellier Field, beginning Saturday, March 3, against Wheaton College (12 noon), followed by home games vs. Gordon College on Tuesday, March 6 (3:30 p.m.) and Elms College on Friday, March 9 (4:00 p.m.) The Lasers will play their first GNAC contest on Tuesday, March 20, vs. Rivier University at Grellier Field.
The Laser baseball squad will open up its season on Friday, March 2, with a non-conference game at the University of Massachusetts Boston (3:00 p.m.) before a seven-game Spring Break trip to Maryland and North Carolina, beginning on Saturday, March 10. The first home games are Saturday, March 24, against Colby-Sawyer College, and Sunday, March 25, vs. New England College, with home games to be played at Brandeis University. The first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contests are Saturday, Apr. 7, at Rivier University.
The Laser softball team will open up its season on its annual Spring Break trip to Clermont, Florida, beginning on Monday, March 12. The Lasers will play 10 games in Florida before returning to New England, with the home opener at Taylor Field slated for Tuesday, March 20, vs Gordon College (3:00 p.m.) The first GNAC contests are slated for Saturday, March 31, at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, Conn.
The Lasell men's and women's track and field teams, which are currently competing in the indoor season, will open up the outdoor season on Saturday, March 24, at the Wesleyan Spring Classic at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn. The squad will compete in three outdoor meets before the annual GNAC Championships on Sunday, April 29, at Regis College in nearby Weston, Mass.
The Laser men's volleyball season, which began in late January and runs into the second week of April, will play its home opener at the Athletic Center on Saturday, March 3, against MIT and Eastern Mennonite University, beginning at noon. The GNAC playoffs begin on Tuesday, April 10, and the Lasers are looking for a second straight trip to the GNAC title match.
